How To Keep Your Keg Cold During A Party

January 14th, 2008

You’ve invested in a keg for your party.  With all of the running around you have to do before the party; you need to pick up the keg several hours beforehand.  The party will last several hours.  How are you going to keep your keg cold before and during your party?  A keg coat can be one of the best investments that you make.  Kegs are expensive and everyone knows that warm beer is anything but good.  Protect your investment and keep everyone happy with a cold keg!

Keg coats are ideal choices because they keep your keg cold for several hours, well into the night.  There are a variety of models on the market, each offering their own benefits.  Choose one that is appropriate for the keg you will be purchasing and your budget.  An insulated keg coat is a wise investment for someone that only has a party infrequently.  This choice can keep your beer cool for up to ten hours at a time.  They feel like warm insulated jackets that will fit snuggly over the top of the keg.  Most are composed of several insulating layers, but each brand will differ.  Look for those that provide several levels of heavy weight nylon.

A nice feature available on some keg coats is an additional layer which can be used to store ice.  The ice is packed around the keg to provide even more cooling.  These layers should be waterproof layers.  You should be sure that you have this type of insulation if your party will last more than eight to ten hours.  This insulation keeps the beer cold and the hot air of summer out.

These insulating keg coats fit snugly over the top of your keg.  There is room at the top for the spout to come through, which makes using your keg simple.  You simply need to set up the keg, place the insulation over the top, add ice if it will be a long party, and allow guests to help themselves.

There are other solutions on the market as well.  A keg cooler is another choice for those that want something even more insulated.  These are usually insulated, but are reinforced vinyl.  The tap comes through the top, just as in the insulated keg coat which makes using them simple.  When purchasing these, be sure to get one that is large enough for the keg you have.  Half barrel and smaller sized kegs will need appropriately sized insulation over them.

Invest in a keg coat to keep your beer wonderfully cool every time no matter how long your party lasts.
